Dirt Roads, Dead Ends and Love Stories
NOTE: This a throwback to my old vlogs. If you do not like videos where I ramble, go off topic, get lost, talk about nothing (I have yet to publish a video in which I do not do these things,) then this is not the video for you! If you like scripted, rigid, well defined topics, this video is not for you! You have been warned! lol... This is just me going stir crazy and getting out of the house for a little trip to Connecticut, which spawns some memories of years past while I search for a road that I visited in 1992, even though I don't know exactly what I would do if I found it. :) I expect no one to get through 32 minutes of this.

Picking Up my 2019 Indian Chieftain Limited - Full Pickup and Overview

Back in September, Eric at MOMSouth was kind enough to give my camera the rundown of my new Indian Chieftain Limited. He goes over the tires, handlebar controls, Ride Command system, rear air shock and the 500 mile service (which I've already had done by the time this video is being released.) I love this bike!

How I traded my Harley for an Indian before I ever picked up the Harley
Переглядів 16 тис.4 роки тому
Part 2. Here I begin to explain the parts that made me go from "I could have this bike for a year even though I didn't like the dealer experience" to "I really don't want to be a part of this." The chain of events, for those that don't want to watch both videos (I don't blame you!) 1) Tried for 8 months to get my local Indian dealer to take my rather oddly sized trailer in trade for an Indian C...
WHY I traded the Harley for an Indian before I ever picked up the Harley
Переглядів 36 тис.4 роки тому
So here's Part 1. This explains my dealership experience, and it's one of the things that turned me off from owning a Harley. I guess if you like the bike enough, you deal with it. But it felt bizarre to me coming from a world of low pressure "let the bike sell itself" Indian dealerships to this. The second part of this, coming soon, will explain a little more of the WHY (which has to do more w...
Insecure Harley Riders, Let's Get Real
Переглядів 17 тис.4 роки тому
This video is not a video. I mean, it is, but it's more like just a warning to insecure Harley riders (the kind you see commenting that a "real bike is a Harley" or "an Indian is a Polaris" or "real men ride Harleys) that my next two videos might be tough for them to watch, but they're still welcome to watch and comment if they can do it in a mature way :) I doubt they can, so I would expect a ...

Is the Indian Motorcycle 116 Engine Right For You?

2019 Indian Chieftain Limited Rear Cylinder Deactivation and Exhaust
Переглядів 45 тис.5 років тому
In my first review of the 2019 Chieftain Limited, I was unaware that the rear cylinder deactivation option had been turned off in the menu. So, I took it for another spin, this time with it on, to see how it felt and sounded. I also strapped some pretty decent audio equipment to the back to pick up a lot of exhaust sound, which you'll hear throughout the video.

2019 Indian Chieftain Ltd - The Video That Changed My Mind

Yes, it's 45 minutes of rambling. What else would you expect from me? But hopefully you gain a little insight into the bike that has shaken up the world of Indian riders.

You are rambling. Next time, fix your glove before you get out on the road, you'll do all of us a favor. It seems like you want a smaller bike. I ride a 2016 Indian Roadmaster and love it. My choice of exhaust is the 4" Rinehart slip-ons and if you go this route, be sure to install a high-flow air-cleaner.

I'm 5'7" and very comfortable on my 2006 Roadliner (same bike, no windshield, bags, etc.) My feet hit the pavement just fine when saddled up and we have a great time cruising. Size matters, but not as much as controlled confidence. That power and snappy throttle was definitely a bit of a worry the first few times I pulled out, but I hadn't ridden any bike without pedals for about 25 years before the day I bought it, so an 80cc would have probably had me a little shook, too. I stalled it twice in front of the bike shop guys, who were all young enough to be my illegitimate children (and may very well have been, since I slayed a few less than virtuous ladies back in the day) and they were kind enough to hide their laughter. After successfully pulling out and giving them a thumbs-up, I began my ride home and promptly laid it over at my first stop sign, partly due to an overlooked chunk of mud on the road, but mostly because of a major case of nerves. Fortunately, I was raised to get back up and rub some dirt in it, and to ignore the tiny scrathes I'd just put in my saddlebag. Sticking to back roads seemed like the best plan until I realized that the local suburbs were absolutely polluted with street sweepers, garbage trucks and school busses on Tuesday afternoons. So, what would have been a 25 minute straight shot through the city turned into a 2 hour comedy of low-speed errors around the outskirts of town. I was so nervous that I was afraid to lean and ended up taking a left turn from pull out on an incline a bit too wide and almost got hung up on the curb. After that, something just switched on in my brain and all of the years (age 7 to 20) riding dirtbikes, mini-bikes, scooters, mopeds, and anything else with handlebars clicked in and I felt like I was home again. It all came back to me, just like, well, riding a bike! Ring rust gone and confidence high, I stopped by my parents house to show it off. Then immediately laid it over again while trying to make a U-turn in their front yard. Now that my ego was back in check and my head was securely out of my backside, I safely made my way home and got ready to work the midnight shift without a nap. (That's right, I live dangerously, people!) This bike was made for me, I swear. I felt it the moment I saw it, and it seems to be true. Btw, It took about a week for the heel shifter to grow on me and I now love that my boots don't get scuffed as much.

My 2014 Vintage was a 111, but the original owner put a 2stage by dealer., cams, air intake, .... I understand your points about the differences between a 111 and a motor with mods. Mine also tends to stall as in conditions that you described. As to smoothness at taking off from stop is very different, and vibration too as one should correctly expect. My friend had a 2017 Chief with no mods. Quietier, smoother, etc, etc. Personally I would not have spent the xtra bucks to do mods on the motor, since racing & competing with other riders is not my thing. On the plus side, I enjoy the heft of this full sized bike vs a Scout. And as for the new SuperChief, I prefer my bike well over the new so called Chief. Just my thoughts, my own experience.

In my opinion, Rhineharts would be third. For sheer volume you can't beat the TAB exhaust with Zombie baffles. I have those on my '19 Chieftain Limited. You can hear them in my last video. But though the Rush system is ever so slightly quieter, its tone is just better.

@@NightcruiserMA Great, thanks for the good info. Based on that, I'm probably the "in the middle" with the Rush. I put Crusher Maverick pipes on my Scout and thought those were way too loud for my personal tastes. I have Dean Speed Rampage on my Super Chief and that's just about right for me. Wish I could hear these in person as you never know but I'm now leaning towards Rush with the 2.5 baffle. Thanks again for the info.

Thanks for your informed analysis. If I were going to buy a new Indian, preferring chrome for its long lasting beauty, I'd probably opt for the Springfield base and add the Stage 2 upgrade. It's about half the cost of the Stage 3 [116] upgrade and would yield a better bang for the buck. There's no denying the Chieftan looks awesome and has several amazing features, but the Springfield would cost about $5k less. That's important to me as I'm 74, retired and on a fixed income. If I could afford it though, I'd probably get the Chieftan Limited. It's just a gorgeous bike.

Thanks for all YOUR GREAT WORK AND VIDEOS! It's unfortunate and absurd that Indian charges a high, top-shelf premium price for their bikes, and people all over UA-cam are talking about dumping more money into their machine to get a "Stage 1" this or a "____ Super Tune" that because they didn't like the factory stock equipment or they felt something was inadequate. I can see why people love these, but for the high price tag I expect a machine that ticks nearly all boxes and should really have very few complaints about transmission/engine/heat/wind management. I want to like Polaris, but I don't.

  • @williampowers9573

There were alot of things I agree with in reference to be happy with whatever you have as long as you are happy. However, you definitely do not have to have maintenance done every 2500 miles. During the break in period there are more checkups you need to do to ensure the longevity of the engine. I love all motorcycles but listening to this crap was exhausting! Sounds like a woman shopping for clothing. Who buys a brand new bike and trades it to an Indian dealership for a rental fleet??? I love how you lost EXTREMELY LITTLE MONEY! that was funny. And a weird Harley dealership, never heard of one. Every dealership I've ever been to treat you with respect. They want your money like any other dealership wether it's Honda, Indiana, whoever. I think the problem is you my friend. I figured you out in two videos. Can't make ya mind up, wishy washy..and complains about everything. Who complains about a tour of the shop! That's there job! I've never heard a man buy a Harley and complain so much in my life. It's not an act Most people who buy a new Harley are very excited. Complain complain complain..and if you have an issue with the suspension of a new road glide..you might want to consider loosing a little weight! ..just guessing! Good luck to any dealerships who have to deal with this guy!
